Things I found on the way to something else
I have a project in the works that calls for a machine that sits quietly on my server shelf that is continuously updated from two other servers. Its sole purpose in life is to be rebooted should one of the two servers die. One of the servers is a Windows based server, the other a Fedora based Terminal Services machine. Without adding another Windows server license to the mix, this machine must simply copy the Windows install and the Linux install.
As part of my research into whether this is even possible (which it very well may be) I have run across some other interesting software. There is the utility site Magical Jelly Bean that will retrieve your install CD code from the Windows registry, and a couple of other little sofware gems. Then there is Last Bit Software that sells password recovery tools for those documents that you forgot the password for. Need to open that spreadsheet that your cubicle-mate password protected and then forgot? This should help. Also Access databases, Word documents, the list that it should work on is huge.
Finally, there is TGRMN Software makers of an intriguingly inexpensive piece of software that should keep a backup totally synced. It even supposedly uses a database to track document/file changes. This one looks like it has some promise. I will have to give this a review once I have time to get it installed and tested.
