Vote for The Other Guy

Filed under: Politics — site admin @ 5:03 pm

The Republican primary ballot for my district breaks down so bizarrely that I wouldn’t know who to vote for if I were to request that ballot* on August 24.

So let’s see what we have:
For Senator, we there is John “I sent 3000 troops to the border” McCain. Never mind that Federal law prohibits troops from acting in a policing capacity on US soil. McCain has flip flopped on the border fence and is running on security, not jobs.

JD Hayworth is running against him. JD is a tea bagging blow hard who was voted out of Congress and then ran infomercials selling “free government grants” that were investigated for fraud and the company had to settle with several attorneys general for misleading advertising.

And Jim Deakin, Tea Party Activist…. puhlease – need I say more?

Congress – eight candidates? Throw a dart. This is the new seat that was held by sleaze ball, carpet bagger Rick Renzi until he was run out of town on a rail for campaign financing violations and government land swaps (and is still facing those charges in federal court).

Governor. Jan Brewer, who managed to prop a stick under education and public protection and put a one cent sales tax on the ballot. She also signed the racist SB1070 – and then asked the legislature to scrap it and rework it when most of it was ruled illegal by the court. I’m not sure how I personally feel about her. She’s still a bit too conservative for me, but she does have a bit of pragmatism (good for any party). There’s also unknown (at least to me) Matthew Jette, and two other dropouts. Buz Mills and Dean Martin.

The next office with more than one Republican candidate is Attorney General. Not sure what your choice might be as a Republican. You have Andrew Thomas under federal investigation for mis-using his office to investigate his political opponents. It also appears that he is running a smear campaign against Rick Romley (who is running for Maricopa County Attorney a completely different office) with money from Sheriff Joe’s campaign war chest. Sheriff Joe (who is up for re-election in two years) defends his use of campaign moneys in a race that shouldn’t involve him.

Next for Attorney General there is Tom Horne. As a candidate for his current position as Superintendent of Public Education he ran a smear campaign against a retiring Superintendent. In other words, the guy was not running for re-election but the commercials were against him anyway. Horne tried to scare us into thinking that merely making paper dolls would be good enough to get a high school diploma.

For State Treasurer we have a whole bunch of people I haven’t heard of. And then there are the commercials for Doug Ducey. His commercials tell us he has a “history of creating jobs”. Mr. Ducey, how many jobs will you “create” by “balancing the budget”? In fact, I will ask the question of every right winger, how many jobs can you create by bringing less money into the door of your business? None. If you have less money coming in you cut jobs or hours; you do the work yourself. You clean your own toilets. If you cut the equivalent of one policeman’s salary will you don the uniform yourself and fill the squad car with gas from your own pocket? No. You will just have one less police officer on the road. And that’s where “successful businessmen” just don’t get it. You actually have to bring money into the government. You have to invest in R&D (public education) for your future good as a business.

Tuesday will be interesting, but then Arizona voted McCain – Palin in 2008.

*I’m registered Independent, I get to pick the primary ballot to vote except the Presidential.
