The King is back- hanging with Hootie at the Bacon Cheddar Ranch

Filed under: Goofy Commercials — site admin @ 8:26 pm

Well that creepy King is back. Burger King has brought back the creepy King that they told everyone that it was good to wake up with. This time they have Hootie, from Hootie and the Blowfish singing about the “Bacon Cheddar Ranch” (to the tune of Big Rock Candy Mountain- a hobo/bluegrass song about drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, running from the cops, and happy hour - the original “Gangsta Rap”) I mean, is Hootie that broke? Is he desperate for work? Did he have to pay too much for he Dylan song he plagarized?
Now I know some stars do commercials and it is supposed to push the commercials to higher status, but what is going on here? We have the King who looks arguably like a bad halloween costume, Hootie with his guitar and all the various and sundry flying birds and such that make up this commercial… kinda like an old Briar Rabbit film that I saw once…

You thought I was kidding about wireless viruses?

Filed under: Geek News and Stuff — site admin @ 4:06 pm

If your cell phone battery seems to run low very frequently and you have a Nokia brand cell phone, you could be infected with a virus. The battery gets drained due to the virus trying to find other Bluetooth enabled phones to infect. Much more over at eweek.com in an article entitled Help! The Cell Phone Viruses Are Coming!

Free SSL Certificates

Free SSL Certificates seem to be in the news lately. There is the new project from Linux Lookup and Godaddy Certs for Open Source Project. I signed up for a certificate with cacert.org a free certificate program along the lines of the web of trust that surrounds GPG signature signing. I like the idea of the CACert program and encourage everyone to use their certificates. After all it makes mine all the more valuable.

Fairwell NYPD Blue

Filed under: Reviews — site admin @ 9:06 pm

Tonight is the series finale of NYPD Blue. That is to say that this is the final episode of NYPD Blue to air. This is the last hurrah for the gritty New York based cops that have graced our televisions for the last 12 years. We have seen the struggles, the investigations from Internal Affairs won and lost, the fight with alcoholism lost and won, the demons and ghosts both real and imagined that the characters have fought, the fight with depression lost to a bullet, the fun poked at Dennis Franz by Jay Leno for showing his naked butt on television that was answered on the show by Dennis’ character when he called Jay Leno a “hump”.

And so tonight, I say goodbye to my favorite Tuesday night cop show.

You can bet that there will be a collector’s edition that will be all twelve seasons pus the couple of specials they have run over the years. You can also bet that it will be one of those things that sits on my shelf, that gets viewed many times.
Good night Andy, John Jr, and the whole gang - I for one will miss you.
