From the swath
A friend of mine and his son work for insurance companies as contractor’s doing onsite storm damage claims. He has been assigned to work on Katrina. This is from a recent email:
the good news is i found a room , for one night
Thursday night in Mobil, the
bad news is we started trying to find gas for the
truck every 100 miles or
so on the way down . we arrived in Jackson
Mississippi with about 60 left in
the tank. no gas in town and of course no rooms
to be had , no gas no leave
town for anybody. spoke with some cops guarding
a shell station to keep
some fuel for emergency use. they informed me
that the wal mart about 8
miles up the road had 8000 gallons left and would
open at 6 in the morning.
since we were going to have to spend the night in
the truck we elected to
spend it in line at the wal mart. we were lucky
arrived about 10pm and were
only about 70 cars back. filled up about 7am .
went for breakfast and
spent a couple hours on the phone trying to get
more info. not pleased with
the answers I was getting. could not find a
place to stay in Mobil , no
assurance that I would be able to get more gas ,
and even if I could get it
would only be able to drive back to about
Jackson. could see no gain in
being in Mobil or back in Jackson and living in
the cab of my truck . not
wanting to become part of the problem instead of
part of the solution, I
decided to go north. now in Branson mo.
shopping for a motor home and more
gas capacity.
